Steph Curry receives massive 1-year extension from Warriors for season where he will be 38 years old

The Golden State Warriors have agreed to a one-year contract extension with superstar point guard Stephen Curry, but the money is questionable.

Golden State has reportedly signed Curry to a one-year, $62.6 million extension, which will be added to his current contract, his agent told ESPN.

Curry's current contract runs through the 2025-26 season and will pay him $55.8 million this season and just under $60 million in the final year.

So, in the spirit of increasing Curry's salary each season, this new extension will see that continue into 2026-27.

Currently, the Warriors are not allowed to pay Curry more than that due to the league's over-38 rule, which states that a team cannot sign a contract for more than three years total if he turns 38 during the contract period.

Conversely, this marks the longest term and most money the Warriors could give to a franchise legend.

Curry, 36, is aging like a fine wine in the NBA, but he continues to perform like an All-Star every year. The shooter also had success with the U.S. at the 2024 Paris Olympics, famously putting France to sleep with a killer three-pointer in the gold medal game to seal the win.

Curry is now looking forward to his 16th NBA season, a career he played for the Warriors after being drafted out of Davidson College in 2009.

But this season will be much different for Curry after “Splash Brother” Klay Thompson, who played a key role in the Warriors' four championships since 2015, joined the Dallas Mavericks this offseason.

The Warriors finished 10th in the Western Conference last season with a 46-36 record and failed to reach the first round of the playoffs, losing in the play-in tournament.

So Curry is looking to stay healthy and become a focal point for a team searching for the right pieces to get back into championship contention.

Either way, Golden State is sure not to give any other team a chance to add Curry to their team in the near future — he's committed to the Warriors for life, and the fee signals the team's commitment to the future NBA Hall of Famer.
