In a segment of a CNN interview aired Thursday on “The Lead,” Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris responded to a question about the policy changes by saying, “My values haven't changed.” She also said the Inflation Control Act embodies the values of the Green New Deal.
CNN host and chief political correspondent Dana Bash asked, “Generally speaking, how should voters view some of the changes that you've made to your policy, some of the changes that you've outlined here? Is it because you've got more experience and you've learned more, or is it because you were running in the Democratic presidential primary? And should voters feel reassured and confident that what you're saying now is going to be policy going forward?”
Harris responded, “Dana, I think the most important and significant thing about my policy views and decisions is that my values haven't changed. We talked about the Green New Deal, and I've always believed that the climate crisis is real, that it's urgent, and that we should apply standards like deadlines. We did that with the Inflation Reduction Act. We set targets for the United States, and indeed the entire planet, for when we should achieve certain standards of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and those values haven't changed. My values haven't changed about what we need to do to secure our borders. I served two terms as Attorney General of California, prosecuting international criminal organizations.[s]”It's a violation of American laws regarding transit — laws regarding the illegal passage of guns, drugs and people across the border. My values haven't changed.”
