Dallas police officer killed, 2 officers wounded and shooting suspect killed after chase

Dallas police said a suspect was shot by police after a vehicle pursuit in north Dallas, leaving one officer dead and two others injured.

Dallas police said in a statement that officers responded to a call for assistance in the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive just after 10 p.m. Thursday and found an injured officer inside his patrol vehicle.

Police responded to the scene and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, resulting in two officers being shot.

Three officers were taken to hospital, one of whom died and the other two were in critical but stable condition, police said in a statement.

The identities of the officers were not immediately released.

The suspect fled the scene and was pursued to Lewisville, Texas, about 25 miles northwest of Dallas.

The suspect then exited the vehicle with a long gun and was shot and killed by officers.

Police said he died at the scene.

The Louisville Police Department posted on social media that Dallas police were involved in a vehicle pursuit heading north on Interstate 35.

“Shots were fired and the suspect is deceased,” the post said, noting that no Louisville officers were involved.

Dallas police said the investigation is ongoing, adding that flags will be flown at half-staff at city facilities.
