Divorcé who allegedly gunned down ex-wife, her lover in million-dollar LI home scowls as he emerges from precinct in handcuffs

A Long Island man who allegedly shot and killed his ex-wife and her new mistress inside their multimillion-dollar mansion this week grimaced as he emerged in handcuffs Friday morning.

Daniel Coppola, 50, did not answer any questions as he and another inmate were released from Precinct 6 in Selden.

Coppola is charged with two counts of second-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing his ex-wife, Kelly Coppola, and her boyfriend, Kenneth Pohlman, while they were asleep at their St. James home around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

A scorned divorcee man instructed his teenage daughter to stay in the car outside his home before smashing down the front door and breaking into his home.

Coppola and Kelly, 50, had been embroiled in a bitter divorce battle.

“He left her in the car and went behind some bushes… and then apparently broke down the door and [and] “That's what he did,” Mr. Pohlman's grieving father, Kenneth Pohlman Sr., told reporters outside his home.

“[He] He came back and told his daughter, 'I killed your mom and Kenny.' That's what he told her.”

Detective Kevin Breyer said Coppola fled the scene while the daughter panicked and texted a friend.

The shocked friends eventually called 911, detectives said.

Coppola was later arrested at his home in St. James, about a mile from the crime scene.
