The betting markets did not like Kamala Harris' interview with CNN.
According to Star Sports Betting Company, Kamala Harris was the leading candidate to win the election before the interview, but after the interview she was tied with Donald Trump.
Kamala Harris' odds of winning the 2024 presidential election have dropped significantly following her CNN interview with vice presidential candidate Tim Walz on Thursday night, according to two major betting companies.
The vice president was the favorite to win at 10/11 (52.4%) on Thursday, according to Star Sports betting firm, but by Friday morning he was tied with Donald Trump at 19/20 (51.3%). During the same period, the odds of Trump winning in November rose to 20/21 (51.2%) from 21/20 (48.8%) before the interview, according to UK-based bookmaker Betfair.
Thursday's interview with CNN's Dana Bash was the first time Harris was asked unscripted questions in weeks, and drew sharp criticism from her Republican opponents. During the interview, Harris said she plans to “strengthen and support the middle class” if elected to the White House in November, adding that the Biden administration needed to “bail out the economy” following Trump's “mismanagement” of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Star Sports betting analyst William Kejani told Newsweek magazine: “Vice President Harris is currently tied with Republican nominee Donald Trump at 19/20, down slightly from 10/11 yesterday. The California native has been 5/6 in recent weeks but has not been able to overtake Trump in the markets.”
The Trump campaign slammed Kamala Harris following the interview.
In a statement, they said Kamala Harris “did not address the country's crime crisis at all in her speech, which lasted just over 16 minutes. She spoke about the economy for just 3 minutes and 25 seconds, and immigration for just 2 minutes and 36 seconds.”
The Trump-Vance campaign released a statement Thursday night after Vice President Kamala Harris gave her first media interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, calling Harris a “San Francisco radical” and highlighting aspects of her background that were not discussed in the interview.
“[Harris] “She said three times that her values 'haven't changed.' She remains a San Francisco radical,” the campaign said.
The Trump-Vance campaign said CNN's Dana Bash failed to mention that Harris “supported eliminating bail for violent criminals and raising money for the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which released rioters,” “supported a runoff vote on the American Rescue Plan, which economists say has fueled inflation,” and “supported closing immigration detention centers and releasing thousands of criminals into America's neighborhoods.”
“[Harris] “In a speech that lasted just over 16 minutes, he made no mention at all of the country's crime crisis, only three minutes and 25 seconds on the economy and two minutes and 36 seconds on immigration,” the statement said.
