Capri Sun faces backlash over controversial packaging change

This is interesting news.

If you were in grade school before the early 2000s, you likely remember the excitement of sticking a straw into a pouch of Capri Sun juice, a cafeteria staple that may soon be on its way out.

Capri Sun is reportedly planning a controversial relaunch of its signature pouches, which will soon be replaced with bottles and marketed to adults.

Snackolater is a popular Instagram page that distributes food news. The change was announced Capri Sun Juice will be available in three bottled flavors: Fruit Punch, Strawberry Kiwi and Pacific Cooler.

The changes are expected to be announced at a National Association of Convenience Stores meeting. (NACS) 2024 Show According to Snackolater, it will take place in Las Vegas from October 7th to 10th.

But in response to inquiries from The Post, Kraft Heinz clarified that the pouches are not going away.

“The number one children's beverage brand in America saw fans panic over the news. Reassure everyone “This pouch is truly a great fit,” the company told the Post in a statement. “It will be available exclusively at Walmart. Next week, Capri Sun will release a palette of more than 3,800 Capri Sun pouches. They are available to purchase so that no one misses out on their favourite drink.

“Fans can follow @caprisun Instagram And @caprisun_usa TikTok To find out how to get the product.”

Snackolater sparked intense backlash with his initial post.

“Each bottle is 12 ounces so you don't have to find a place to stick a straw in and hope it doesn't pop out on you!,” Snacklater wrote on Instagram. “Are you excited for this?”

The resounding answer? No.

“It just won't be the same without the straws! Who came up with this?” one commenter protested.

“You can't inflate this and stomp on it and enjoy the popping noise it makes,” lamented another.

“It just made me cry,” one person wrote, while a few others were happy they no longer had to struggle with the straw in their mouths.

And on X (formerly Twitter), one critic commented: “I think it's no exaggeration to say this is one of the most shocking product changes in the history of the food and beverage industry.”

The Kraft Heinz-owned brand recently revealed it will be offering giant juice containers for nostalgic consumers, marking its “first innovation in nearly a decade.”

“This large format allows everyone, even the kid at heart, to bring a piece of their epic childhood home to parties, summer get-togethers or even dinners at home,” says Jordan Mann, senior brand manager for Capri Sun. It said in a statement at that time.

“We're now in a position to delight our fans who grew up drinking Capri Sun with a product that meets their needs. They've grown tired of the single-serving pouches, but their love for Capri Sun remains the same.”

However, the company has yet to officially confirm the rumored revamp of the 12-ounce bottle.
