Mississippi bus crash leaves 7 dead, dozens injured

At least seven people were killed and dozens more were injured Saturday when a bus overturned on Interstate 20 in Mississippi, authorities said.

The single-vehicle crash involving a 2018 Volvo commercial bus happened around 12:40 a.m. near Bovina in Warren County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

“Six passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, one died at Merit Health Hospital in Vicksburg,” officials said in a statement. “Thirty-seven passengers were transported to separate hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson with injuries of unknown severity. The front seat driver was not transported.”

“This accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Commercial Traffic Enforcement Division,” the Mississippi Highway Patrol added.

The bus accident occurred near Bovina, west of Jackson, Mississippi.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear.
