CNN said a recent interview between Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), was not edited, despite allegations that parts of it were spliced together and shortened.
Late this week, a theory began circulating online among supporters of former President Trump that the 27-minute interview that aired was originally 41 minutes long and that much of it had been edited out.
“Is there a world in which CNN would record an interview with the real Donald Trump and then edit it for broadcast to remove inconsistencies, errors and controversial statements?” Trump supporter and billionaire Bill Ackman said in X's now-deleted post. Mediaite was highlighted.
CNN confirmed to The Hill that the interview aired in its entirety on Thursday.
At the start of the program, CNN's Dana Bash emphasized that the interview would be broadcast in its entirety. Trump and his supporters criticized CNN for pre-recording the interview instead of broadcasting it live in order to cover up Harris' gaffe.
The interview was seen as a big moment for Harris.
Harris has been criticized recently for rarely appearing in front of the press and only speaking from behind a teleprompter, but this week's interview gave her the chance to think on her feet and answer questions on the spot.
Harris emerged from the interview largely unscathed, with no major gaffes or major news following the event.
Responding to criticism from Republicans that she had shifted her policy stance since entering the 2020 presidential race, Harris said her “values” had not changed, and while she spoke about the need to tackle climate change, she made little mention of the politics behind fracking.
When asked about Trump's comments about her race, Harris dismissed them as “old and hackneyed” and asked Bash to move on to the next question. After the interview, Trump criticized Harris as “flawed.”
