Angelina Jolie has been ‘betrayed a lot,’ doesn’t have ‘a lot of close’ friendships

Angelina Jolie keeps her social circle small.

In an interview The Hollywood ReporterThe actress opened up about losing friendships over the years after being “betrayed.”

When asked who her “close friends” are that she calls at “3am”, the actress, who is currently promoting her upcoming film “Maria”, replied: “I don't really have those kinds of relationships. Maybe it's because I lost a parent at a young age, maybe it's because of my work, maybe it's because I've been betrayed so many times.”

“I don’t have a lot of warm, close relationships to fall back on,” she added, “but I do have a few, and that’s enough. [Ung, the Cambodian American human rights activist who is the subject of ‘First They Killed My Father’] is one of my closest friends. My mother was very close to me. I lost my mother. Over the years, I've had some friends who weren't there for my family when they were in trouble. I have a few people I can trust.”

And her entourage knows very well how the actress relaxes.

“If someone is watching boring TV and ordering Thai food, I'll be the first to put on my fuzzy socks and sit next to them,” she says. “I like to be with people I love. I'm not the kind of person who begs to be alone.”

“I'm not one of those people who thinks, 'Oh, I want to be alone and enjoy my secret pleasure,' because my secret pleasure is usually being with other people. I love doing things that make other people happy. That's what makes me really happy.”

Jolie also spoke about her desire to leave Los Angeles once her youngest children turn 18. She explained that while they “grew up” in the City of Angels, the only reason they're staying here is because “I have to be here from my divorce.” [from Brad Pitt]”

“But when they turn 18, I can move out,” she said of her youngest children, twins Vivienne and Knox, 16, with Pitt. The former couple also have Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and Shiloh, 18.

“When you have a big family, you want to give them privacy, peace and security,” Jolie told the outlet. “Now I have a home to raise my kids in, but this place sometimes… the humanity that I find in the world is different from the humanity that I grew up with here.”

Jolie explained that she plans to travel the world once she's able to leave Los Angeles.

“I plan to spend a lot of time in Cambodia,” she said, referring to Maddox, who was adopted there in 2002. “I plan to visit my family wherever they are in the world.”
