Angel Reese sets WNBA record for most rebounds in single season

Angel Reese breaks WNBA record.

Before Sunday, the former LSU star had 399 rebounds this season and needed six more to make history.

The rookie grabbed her sixth rebound of the afternoon, setting a new record for most rebounds in a season in WNBA history.

Reese surpassed the all-time record of 404 set by Sylvia Fowles in 2018. Fowles surpassed that mark by one just one year after Jonquel Jones recorded 403.

What's even more amazing is that Reese accomplished the feat in just 23 games — a record that stands to be broken for good after Sunday's game with eight games remaining in the season.

Through Sunday, Reese's 12.9 rebounds per game were the most in the league. She and A'ja Wilson were the only players in the league averaging double figures in rebounds and the only players averaging a double-double.

Reese also leads the WNBA in offensive rebounds per game by a wide margin with 5.1. Aliyah Boston is second with 3.1. Nearly 40% of Reese's rebounds this season have come on the offensive end.

Reese won a national championship at LSU defeating the Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes in 2023. Iowa got revenge this past March by beating the Tigers in the Elite Eight, but lost again in the national title game, this time to unbeaten South Carolina.

Her performance in college led the Chicago Sky to select her with the seventh overall pick in the WNBA Draft, and she and Clark were the only rookies selected to the WNBA All-Star Game in July.
