Crockett: Americans will see Trump as ‘bumbling fool’ at debate

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) said Americans watching the presidential debate later this month will likely see former President Trump as a “dumb fool” compared to Vice President Harris.

“I think she wants to appear like she's the grown-up in the room, and she is.” Crockett said. MSNBC's Alex Witt said Saturday, “What we see is a whining brat who sits there and doesn't give a direct answer and honestly becomes a distracted, bumbling idiot.”

There has been much discussion about the event, scheduled for September 10th in Philadelphia.

Doubts have been raised about whether Trump will attend.

Additionally, the Harris and Trump campaigns sparred last week over whether to mute microphones when the opposing candidate is speaking.

Harris' campaign has asked for microphones to be kept on throughout the debate, arguing that this could result in viewers seeing Trump interrupt the vice president.

In an interview with MSNBC, Crockett repeated common Democratic talking points and called Trump “weird and crazy.”

The Texas Democrat also offered her thoughts on what Harris' debate strategy will be.

“I think she wants to, first of all, assure the American people that she's on top of the issues and also remind the public why she got rid of him in the first place and why she doesn't want him back,” Crockett said.

Crockett added that no one is talking about the specifics of life under Trump, such as the response to the coronavirus pandemic or the national debt.

“It was never about us, it was always about him and his friends,” she said, “so I think that contrast is stark, that she can keep her cool in any situation but also get to the facts.”

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment on Crockett's remarks.
