Katie Gaudreau posted a moving tribute to her brothers, Columbus Blue Jackets stars Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, who were tragically killed last Thursday, the day before their wedding, when they were hit by a suspected drunk driver while riding their bikes in Salem County, New Jersey.
“To know these two was to love them” she wrote on Instagram on Monday.It also included family photos: “The bond between family members cannot be expressed in words.
“The whole world knows there would be no John without Mattie and no Mattie without John. They are the best big brothers a little girl could ask for.”
“This will never be a goodbye post because I will never stop calling you by name and honoring you. Mommy, Daddy, Kristen, Mar, Madeline and all of your babies are my utmost love.”
Katie and her fiance, hockey player Devin Joyce, The wedding was cancelledis set to take place in Gloucester City, New Jersey on Friday, August 30, Page Six has confirmed.
Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, served as groomsmen, while his other sister, Kristen Venero, was due to serve as a bridesmaid.
Sean Higgins, 43, of Woodstown, New Jersey, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and charged with two counts of causing death by motor vehicle.
Police said Higgins struck a brother and sister on bicycles from behind while attempting to pass two vehicles traveling slowly.
Johnny leaves behind his wife Meredith and two children, Noah, almost 2, and Johnny, 6 months old.
Meredith shared a number of tributes on Instagram, including photos of the family.

Matthew's wife, Madeline Gaudreau, is pregnant with the couple's first child, “Baby Tripp,” and is due in December, her sister wrote. GoFundMe post.

Jonny played nine seasons with the Calgary Flames before signing a seven-year contract with the Blue Jackets in July 2022.
Matthew is also a hockey player, most recently playing for the Worcester Railers.
