A new poll has widened the gap between Vice President Harris and former President Trump in support among women, highlighting a significant uptick in support from a key voting bloc that could be key in the race for the Democratic nomination in November.
ABC News/Ipsos Poll, Released on SundayAccording to the poll, Harris leads Trump among women, 54 percent to 41 percent. Before last month's Democratic National Convention, Harris led Trump among that demographic by six points.
Trump, who has struggled to win over female voters, led Harris among male voters 51 percent to 46 percent in a new survey.
Pollsters noted that the gender gap between Ms Harris and Mr Trump has been more balanced in recent elections: since 1996, exit polls have typically found the margin to be around 19 points.
The poll found that the biggest change in the poll among women and men was among white voters: Before the Democratic National Convention, Trump had a 13-point lead among white women; now, he has a 2-point lead. Meanwhile, the former president had a 13-point lead among white men before the convention; now, he has a 21-point lead.

The latest polls also found that while Harris' overall approval rating did not increase significantly after the Democratic National Convention, she maintains a small lead over Trump nationally.
Harris outperformed Trump among all adults and registered voters, 50 percent to 46 percent, and led Trump among likely voters, 52 percent to 46 percent.
Pollsters noted those results were similar to those from an August poll, in which an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll before the convention found Harris with 49% of likely voters, compared with 45% for Trump.
The new poll follows a series of others showing Harris holding a slim lead over President Trump, who has largely ignored her growing support.
Harris is leading Trump nationally by 4.1 points, according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ polling index.
The latest ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted Aug. 23-27, with 2,496 people interviewed. The margin of sampling error is 2.1 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
