Serena Williams reacts to first sip of US Open’s signature cocktail after decades of competing on the court

Serena Williams returns to the US Open.

But instead of emerging from her locker room at the back of Arthur Ashe Stadium, the six-time Grand Slam champion watched from the stands. She was there over Labor Day weekend for the seventh and final Grand Slam match.

Unfortunately, Williams was at the prestigious tournament on the same day that defending champion Coco Gauff was eliminated, but since she was a spectator rather than a competitor, she got the chance to try some fan-favorite tennis-themed cocktails.

“Well, I'm at the U.S. Open, having the famous drink,” the 23-time Grand Slam champion said. Video posted to social media“Everyone asks me, 'Have you ever had it before?' and I say, 'No,' because I've been playing it all this time.”

Grey Goose's partnership with the U.S. Open continues this year with attendees having the opportunity to sip on a Honeyduce, a mix of vodka, lemonade and raspberry liqueur. The popular cocktail also includes three specialty melon balls.

The cocktail debuted in 2007, and Grey Goose says the popular drink has been purchased more than 2.25 million times on stadium grounds. Business Insider.

A TikTok video showing Williams taking a sip of her drink and reacting had been viewed more than 348,000 times as of late Tuesday afternoon.

The tennis star added that he likes to drink his Honeydeuces with premium tequila instead of vodka.

“Honey, that's not a deuce,” Ms. Williams said, “It's called a honey add-in or a honey ace. That's a nice name, let's change the name.”

At this year's U.S. Open, Honeyduce will cost $23 and will be served in a commemorative cup bearing the names of past tournament winners, including Williams.

Williams last played at Arthur Ashe Stadium in 2022, losing in the third round of that year's U.S. Open to Ajla Tomljanovic.

Williams has two children with her husband, venture capitalist Alexis Ohanian, who is also the co-founder of Reddit and part of Angel City FC's founding ownership group.

In July, The team announced The franchise has reached an agreement to make Disney CEO Bob Iger and his wife, Willow Bay, the club's new controlling owners. Ohanian will remain on Angel City FC's board of directors.

The US Open women's singles final is scheduled to take place on September 7th, and the men's singles final on September 8th.
