NYU Langone launches ‘Care on Demand’ at new walk-in clinics

A new doctor has arrived for those needing urgent care, and CityMD may need to be on alert.

NYU Langone Health launched new walk-in services (no appointment necessary) at two recently opened clinics to connect patients with primary care physicians across the system, the hospital giant announced Tuesday.

The “Care on Demand” program gives New Yorkers a new, walk-in way to “receive full access to top clinical experts at more than 300 locations,” said NYU Langone CEO Robert Grossman.

NYU Langone opened a primary care facility on Hudson Street in the West Village on Aug. 19, and another one a week later on the Upper East Side near East 83rd Street.

Clinicians on-site can also treat illnesses such as allergy and asthma symptoms, gastrointestinal issues and viral illnesses such as influenza and COVID-19.

The new clinics are different from urgent care centers like CityMD, which are used to treat non-life-threatening medical issues that require quick attention when a patient's primary care physician is unavailable.

Primary care centers, on the other hand, are ideal for routine check-ups, chronic disease management, and preventive care such as cancer screenings and vaccinations.

The concept “not only provides convenient care, but also provides continuity of care across the network,” said Andrew Brotman, chief clinical officer at NYU Langone.

“This includes access to the NYU Langone Health app and the NYU Langone Health MyChart patient portal, which gives each patient access to virtual urgent care, telehealth appointments, lab results and easy communication with their health care providers.”
