Harris grows lead over Trump among Americans under 45: Poll

A new poll shows the gap in approval ratings between Vice President Harris and former President Trump among Americans under 45 has widened to its widest since she became the Democratic nominee.

new Economist/YouGov PollIn the poll released Wednesday, Harris led Trump by 22 percentage points among adults under 45, 56% to 34%, and while she trailed among younger voters, Trump outperformed Harris among voters 65 and older, with Trump winning with 56% support compared to Harris' 39%.

The vice president also led among those 30 to 44 years old, with 53% approval rating to Trump's 36%.

The Democrat had a slight lead among registered voters, with Harris on 47% to Trump's 45%, within the poll's margin of error.

The poll showed the former president had a nearly double-digit lead among independents, with 46 percent support, compared with Harris' 37 percent.

The survey found that supporters on both sides of the aisle are eager to back their preferred candidate in November's presidential election, with about 68% of Trump supporters and 67% of the vice president's supporters saying they are “very enthusiastic or very enthusiastic” about supporting their candidate at the ballot box.

The former president held a 1% lead among men and Harris maintained a 4-point lead among women, though both margins narrowed from the previous week, according to the poll. Trump maintained a 23% lead among veterans and current military voters, 59% to 36%, with Republicans outnumbering Democrats in this group, the poll noted, 41% to 28%.

According to The Hill/DDHQ poll, Harris' approval rating is 49.4% and Trump's is 45.4%.

The poll was conducted Sept. 1-3 among 1,544 respondents, of which 1,389 were registered voters. The margin of error was 3.4 percentage points for eligible voters and 3.3 percentage points for registered voters.
