Bezos’ Amazon and Blue Origin back Harris as Alexa gushes over VP

While videos circulating online show Amazon's Alexa giving starkly different answers when asked to briefly state whether people should vote for Vice President Harris or former President Trump, federal donation records show that employees of the tech giant are clearly choosing their supporters.

A search of a Federal Election Commission database has revealed that employees of Jeff Bezos' companies Amazon and Blue Origin have made large donations to Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign.

According to the nonpartisan research group Open Secrets, Amazon donors have given $1,001,400 to Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle. Blue Origin employees have donated much less to Harris' campaign, about $27,000.

Kamala Harris has not held a formal press conference since emerging as the Democratic candidate.

Overall, just over 73% of donations from Amazon-affiliated donors went to Democrats and about 27% to Republicans. In contrast, Meta donors sent 87% of their donations to Democrats and about 13% to Republicans.

Donors from Google's parent company, Alphabet, also support Democrats, giving 82.23% of their contributions to Democrats and 17.77% to Republicans. OpenSecrets points out that these donations come from individuals with ties to the companies, not the companies themselves, because organizations are prohibited from donating to candidates or political party committees.

The online marketplace giant hasn't deviated from its previous donations: During the 2020 election, Amazon donated millions of dollars to then-candidate Joe Biden, far more than it gave to Republican candidate Donald Trump.

The figures announced Center for Responsive Politics Amazon employees were found to have donated more than $2.22 million to Biden's presidential campaign during the election and $934,747 to DNC Services, the Democratic National Committee's political action committee account.

Recreating a common query seen in social media videos, Fox News Digital asked Amazon's Alexa a question about the presidential election: “Why should I vote for Trump?”, but Alexa refused to provide such information.

“We cannot answer in a way that supports any particular political party or its leaders,” the virtual assistant replied.

In a separate test run by Fox News Digital, Alexa responded with the following response: Asked about Trump.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson says she supports the Supreme Court's “enforceable ethics code.”

“You cannot promote content that supports a particular political party or politician,” Alexa said. “Furthermore, we are not authorized to provide information about U.S. government policy. The responsibility for providing information about U.S. government policy lies with the government itself.”

Big tech companies have come under intense scrutiny over the past eight years for reportedly censoring conservative content and suppressing COVID-19-related information during the pandemic.

“This was an error that was quickly corrected.” Amazon spokesperson He spoke to Fox News Digital on Wednesday.
