‘You Have to Fight Fire with Fire’

Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump said in a podcast interview on Tuesday that he calls his opponent, Kamala Harris, a “communist” because the left is calling her a “fascist.”

“You have to fight fire with fire,” he explained on Rex Friedman's podcast.

Trump's comments came after moderator Fridman asked him what he most admires about the left.

Trump said he respects everyone involved: “Well, I respect the fact that everyone involved is out there, and to some extent, life is what you do while you're waiting to die, so you might as well do a good job.”

But he said he believes this year's election is the most important in the nation's history and that if he doesn't win, the country will become a communist state.

We have a chance to save our country. This country is in decline. I have predicted that about Venezuela, and about many other countries. And if we don't win this election, this country is in decline. The election that will be held on November 5th is the most important election this country has ever had, because if we don't want it, I don't know if there will be another election, and this country will become a communist country, or close to it.

Friedman said many people don't believe Harris is a communist.

“She's a Marxist,” Trump responded, noting that her father was a Marxist and that some of the ideas she advocates, such as price controls, are Marxist.

She's advocating policies that are more in the direction of democratic socialism, so to speak, but a lot of people who know how government works say, “Well, none of these policies are ever going to actually happen.” That's just used during campaigns to say, groceries are too expensive, we need to make them cheaper, so let's talk about price controls. And that's never going to happen. It could happen.

I mean, she instituted price controls. That's been tried 121 times over the years in different places and it's never worked. It leads to communism. It leads to socialism. It leads to no food on the shelves and massive inflation.

“It's just not OK to use words like communism against her. I don't know if you know this, but some people are calling you a fascist,” Friedman, an independent, responded.

Trump responded, “Yeah, so I'm OK with calling them communists. And yeah, they call me communists a lot worse than I call them.”

Trump noted that whenever he is attacked and responds, people are paying attention to what he says, not how he responds.

“But what's funny sometimes is they call me nasty things, and I say it back, and they say, 'That's nasty, right? What did Trump say?' And I say, 'Wait a minute, they just called me a -' So I believe you have to fight fire with fire.”

He added, “I think they are very evil people. They are evil people. You know, we have enemies from without and we have enemies from within. In my opinion, the enemies from within are the far-left lunatics. So I think we have to fight back.”
