In a recent interview Charismatic Media“The Chosen” creator Dallas Jenkins has revealed plans to expand the show. Though “The Chosen” is available on multiple streaming platforms, the move to The CW network will allow the hit series to reach a wider audience.
“I saw the show on The CW last year and was really excited about it,” Jenkins said. said“They did seasons one through three, and the ratings actually went up as the seasons went on, which was mind-blowing to me.”
Jenkins stressed that it is the show's mission to be transparent with its viewers, especially since it relies so heavily on donations.
“From the beginning, we said we were going to pull the curtain back and invite you to be a part of the process,” he explained. “We survive because of your donations, and we have an obligation to let you know where your donations are going.”
Jenkins also spoke about the show's storytelling approach, which he says is particularly about taking creative liberties while staying faithful to the Bible.
“Obviously, some have disagreed with some of the choices we've made over the years,” Jenkins said, “but overall I'm very proud and confident that we've accurately captured the character of Jesus and the character of God in the Gospels.”
While the show doesn't always go into factual detail, Jenkins insisted it aims to provide a “true” message in light of the Bible.
During the interview, Jenkins spoke about the unique connection “The Chosen” builds with its audience through interactive events and more.
“We had 4,000 people come out in one day,” Jenkins said of the scenes that were filmed with crowd participation. “It was an amazing experience.”
He also revealed plans for future seasons that will include scenes that require audience participation.
“We're going to need that again in season six… because it's the crucifixion season,” he said.
Jenkins also urged viewers to tune in to season 4 of “The Chosen,” which premieres on Sunday, September 1, on The CW.
“Even if you've already seen the season, just tune your TV to that channel because the numbers are what keep the network or streamer from keeping it there,” Jenkins said. “If they see the success of the show, that helps and it makes a difference.”
He further stressed the importance of the show having a strong connection with its audience.
“We want people to feel like they're a part of this,” Jenkins said.
