Bitter boyfriend allegedly set NJ home of girlfriend’s parents on fire — with her inside — after argument

Police said a resentful boyfriend set fire to his girlfriend's parents' house and she fled as flames engulfed the house.

Police said Leonard Jones, 50, is accused of starting the fire after an argument with his girlfriend inside a home on Old Beekman Road in South Brunswick around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the South Brunswick Police Department, police were called to a home in Middlesex County after Jones refused to leave.

As officers were en route to the scene, they received a second 911 call reporting a house on fire.

As the fire spread through the single-family home, the four residents, including Jones, managed to escape the home safely.

Neighbor Elise Campanella said a resident knocked on her door before firefighters arrived and warned her it was a “freak” fire.

“It was pretty widespread and I was terrified it was going to fall out of the trees and land on my house. It was just making me crazy,” she said. News 12 New Jersey.

Jones was arrested outside the home and charged with aggravated arson and domestic violence.
