Irish-born UFC fighter Conor McGregor has hinted at the possibility of running for Irish President in the future following the failure of his long-awaited return to the Octagon.

McGregor, 36, hinted at the idea in a social media post on Thursday, positioning himself as the country's “only logical option.”

“As President, I have the power to not only dissolve but also convene the House of Representatives,” McGregor wrote, “so, as I've said before, I will have all the answers the Irish people want from worker thieves, family disrupters, small business destroyers and whatnot!”

“The charlatans in power will be called to account to the Irish people and I will end it that same day or I will be left with no option but to dissolve the House of Commons altogether,” McGregor added. “Stop the train. The Irish people deserve the answers they want. I say this bluntly. This is my prerogative as President. I know this. Ireland needs an active President who is fully employed by the Irish people. That is me. I am the only logical choice. 2025 is approaching…”

The “Dáil” is Ireland's parliament and includes the country's Senate and President.

The Irish President rules under the Taoiseach (Prime Minister), who plays a role similar to that of a Prime Minister. The Irish President serves a seven-year term and can serve up to two terms, with the next election scheduled for 2025.

McGregor was originally scheduled to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June, but he broke his toe while training and the bout has been postponed until at least next year, UFC CEO Dana White announced.

“We've talked about it, and he wants to fight,” White said. “We'll work it out. Not this year. He's not going to fight this year.”

McGregor responded to White's comments with an X saying, “Ending the calendar year with a triumphant event! Hey, what's this? I'm going to be at altitude next month to get ready. It's December! Tell Dana and the UFC I want December! We deserve December!”
