The 2024 Eagles' first two drives looked a lot like how the 2023 team finished last season.
Philadelphia played the Packers in Brazil on Friday night, but the team's first drive of the season opener featured three errors, including Saquon Barkley stumbling on what was supposed to be a slippery surface at Neo Quimica Arena on his first possession as the Eagles.
On the second play, quarterback Jalen Hurts threw an incomplete pass to a well-covered A.J. Brown that was then intercepted by former Giants defensive back Xavier McKinney, putting Green Bay on its way to the Philadelphia 19-yard line.
Philadelphia's defense prevented the Packers from attempting a field goal, but the offense's shaky start continued, with center Cam Jurgens clearly unable to get into rhythm with the quarterback and the Eagles only managing three more plays before Hurts fumbled the ball.
When the Eagles lost the ball, the Peacock cameras immediately showed Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni's reaction.
Viewers could be heard to say, “What the heck?”, what appeared to be the head coach.
Jurgens replaces Jason Kelce, who retired at the end of last season after 10 years at center in Philadelphia. Jurgens was seen talking to Hurts after the second turnover and trying to get him in sync.
It wasn't the start the Eagles wanted, but they rallied behind two first-half touchdowns from Saquon Barkley and then Hurts linked up with Brown to score in the third quarter to give them their first lead of the night.
