‘I am no longer a Democrat’

Prominent legal scholar Alan Dershowitz said he was “disgusted” by what he witnessed at last month's Democratic National Convention and announced he was leaving the Democratic Party.

A former professor at Harvard Law School, Self-described Liberal Democrattold radio host Zev Brenner on August 23 that he felt the Chicago rally was “the worst convention in American history” because of the number of speakers who openly spoke out against Israel.

“There were a lot more anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist people speaking out. [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] “A pathetic anti-Zionist bigot,” Dershowitz said during the show. “Talkline with Zev Brenner” “Of course they [Sen. Elizabeth] Warren is one of the most anti-Semitic people in the Senate. And then we had Bernie Sanders, who is one of the most anti-Semitic people in the Senate.”

Dershowitz argued that the Democratic Party was giving “legitimacy” to anti-Israel sentiment by allowing people who espouse it to speak at its convention.

“The Democratic National Convention disgusted me,” Dershowitz said. Reuters

“[B]”Giving them a platform means that when AOC calls Israel a genocidal nation and denounces it, she gets the Democratic Party's stamp of approval,” he explained.

“I was sick of the Democratic National Convention,” he added. “I was really sick of it.”

“I'm no longer a Democrat. I'm an Independent,” he continued, but did not say who he plans to vote for on Election Day.

“I'm going to weigh the situation as a whole and then decide at the last moment who I'm going to vote for,” Dershowitz explained. “I want to see how they deal with Iran. I want to see how they deal with an Iranian attack on the United States. I want to urge the current administration to support Israel. So I'm not going to reveal who I'm voting for until November 1st.”

Dershowitz, who has faced criticism from the left for defending former President Donald Trump during his first impeachment trial, suggested he was “gradually” moving away from the Democratic Party but that the convention was a turning point.

“I cannot be associated with the party that appears as the speaker, AOC. [Al] “Sharpton, Liz Warren, Bernie Sanders,” he said. “That's not my party.”
