Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz criticized the Democratic Party in August for hosting “the most anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, anti-Zionist convention ever,” adding that he was “no longer a Democrat.”
During the period Interview Speaking with radio host Zev Brenner, Dershowitz said the Democratic National Convention in Chicago was filled with “anti-Semitic, anti-Zionist” speakers, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Dershowitz also criticized President Joe Biden, state He said pro-Palestinian protesters “have a point” and noted Biden was spreading the false rumor that former President Donald Trump had called the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville “fine people.”
“He didn't say that,” Dershowitz said. “What he said was he was condemning neo-Nazis. He was condemning people who said Jews won't replace us. He said there are fine people on both sides of the debate about whether to remove the Robert E. Lee statue.”
Dershowitz noted that there were “no respectable people” outside the Democratic National Convention chanting “Hamas will win” and said “nothing went wrong on October 7th.”
When Brenner asked Dershowitz, a lifelong Democrat, if he was “ready to leave the party,” Dershowitz clarified that he was no longer a member.
“So, are you ready to leave the Democratic Party?” Brenner asked.
“I'm no longer a Democrat,” Dershowitz responded. “I'm an independent and I'm going to decide at the last moment who I'm going to vote for.” [the] “I want to see the whole situation. I want to see how they deal with Iran, how they would deal with Iran if they attack the United States. I want to encourage the current administration to support Israel. That's why I'm not going to reveal the results of my vote until November 1st.”
“When did you leave the Democratic Party?” Brenner added.
Dershowitz said his departure from the party was gradual “over time” but that there were “many reasons” that “made me leave the party,” including Vice President Kamala Harris' “failure to abide by her constitutional duty to preside” over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's joint address to Congress.
I think what really fired me up was the way the Democrats ran their convention. I cannot be associated with a party chaired by AOC, Sharpton, Liz Warren and Bernie Sanders. That's not my party.
Harris, Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders had all said they would not attend “war criminal Netanyahu's speech to Congress.”
Dershowitz, a criminal lawyer, is also known for defending former President Donald Trump in his first Senate impeachment trial.
