Harris Flipping on Issues ‘a Sign of Strength’

On ABC's “The View” on Friday, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) said it was a “show of strength” that Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, a 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, changed her position on some issues and listened to Pennsylvanians on fracking.

Co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin asked, “Kamala Harris is running a very different campaign than she did in 2020. She's moved to the center on many issues and has retracted previous positions, including calling for a ban on fracking, as she prepares for a must-see debate with former President Trump on Tuesday. Do you think it was a strategic mistake for her not to explain these changes in position more fully before the debate, because clearly she's going to be challenged on some of these things on the debate stage?”

Shapiro responded, “First of all, I think it's a sign of strength to change your position. Obviously, Kamala Harris has listened to the good people of Pennsylvania on natural gas and energy and the fact that we have more energy produced in this country today than ever before, which strengthens our national security and our economy, and Pennsylvania is a big part of that. She gets it. She's listened, and I think that's important. I've changed the way I think about things. I ran in support of the death penalty, but after serving as attorney general and top prosecutor for Pennsylvania, I finally really understand some of the challenges in our system and I've changed the way I think about it. I think that's a sign of strength.”
