Angel Reese Announces She Will Miss Rest of WNBA Season Due to Wrist Injury

Chicago Sky rookie star forward Angel Reese's inaugural season is coming to an end.

The team announced Saturday that the rookie phenom will be rested due to a wrist injury.

“What a year it has been. I never expected my last bucket of my rookie season to be a 3-pointer but maybe God was just telling me to give me a taste of what we will see more of in year 2. LOL. I have proven myself worthy of this league even when no one believed in me. All I have ever wanted was to go for the W and make an impact. I can say that with confidence and will strive to continue to do so. Right now I am filled with emotions after suffering a season-ending injury but am so grateful for what comes next. I know this is God's timing and not mine but I am finally able to rest both physically and mentally. “God gives the toughest battles to his strongest warriors.”

“Please continue to watch me as the biggest cheerleader on the sidelines! And see you again in the Unrivaled League!”

An early end to the year would mean Reese would miss the final six games of the season.

Reese would finish the year having broken the WNBA single-season rebounding record, set the WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles (10) and set the record for total double-doubles by a rookie (26).

All those statistics are relevant.

Reese got a high percentage of her rebounds off of missed shots, which is why she set new records in both double-double categories, but she did so by missing a lot of shots from very close to the basket, which is reflected in her low field goal percentage of 39.1%.

The Sky have lost eight of their last 10 games and are battling for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
