In opinion polls The New York TimesThe Siena College poll, considered the most accurate, shows Trump leading among voters nationwide with 48% to Harris' 47%.

Trump has been steadily regaining support in the polls since surging at the start of Harris' honeymoon period after President Joe Biden dropped out of the November presidential race.

The poll included 1,695 voters nationwide and had a margin of error of less than 2.8 percentage points.

“Pollars show President Trump is leading nationally and in battleground states because voters want a return to pro-America policies that actually work, not Comrade Kamala's weak, failed and dangerously liberal policies,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Chung said.

The poll found that majorities of voters trust Harris on abortion (54% to 49%) and democracy (50% to 45%), while Trump leads on the economy (55% to 42%) and immigration (53% to 43%).

Additionally, the poll found that the issues most important to voters are the economy (21%), abortion (14%), immigration (12%), inflation and the cost of living (7%), and democracy (7%).

The survey also found that 56% of respondents do not believe Harris represents a change in policy or direction for the Biden administration, compared with 51% who believe Trump represents a major change.

Surveys show more than 60% of voters want the next president to make a major policy shift from Biden's unpopular administration. The New York Times.

Political strategist James Carville recently published an op-ed arguing that whoever can pitch themselves as the biggest change from the current administration will be in the best position to win, but since Harris is intrinsically tied to the Biden administration's lackluster record, this clearly gives Trump an advantage.

The poll also noted that Harris' favorability ratings lag behind Trump's, with 45% of respondents viewing her favorably, compared with 46% who view Trump very favorably.

“It's the best-respected pollster in the country with a large sample size. Luckily for Harris, there's a debate this week and if she has a good night, none of this will mean anything,” election data expert Nate Silver said of the recent polls.

Trump and Harris are scheduled to debate on Tuesday night in a match that could significantly determine the outcome of the election.
