Take a good listen to this Apple announcement:
The tech giant today unveiled the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which feature cutting-edge hardware capabilities, an even sleeker and more sustainable design, and introduces artificial intelligence powered by ChatGPT to give users even more nuanced control.
Pricing for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus starts at $799 and $899, respectively.
The 6.1-inch iPhones, or 6.7-inch iPhones on the Plus models, introduce a new camera-only sliding button on the bottom half of the phone. This “camera control” feature automatically launches the camera app and, with a light tap, lets users toggle through a dropdown of a number of high-end optical features to improve their photos.
The camera itself is 48 megapixels, four times the resolution of the iPhone 14.
Next month, iPhone 16 users will get to try out Apple Intelligence, a generative AI with the ability to create custom images and emojis from written prompts, as well as a host of writing and tone enhancement features (which Apple says could also help soften Slack messages to your boss).
Siri also has more advanced conversational abilities that understand the context of both verbal and written conversations, and can scan the text of a message to surface music albums and other relevant information that you can search for.
Again, the new iPhone cameras, combined with Apple Intelligence, will be much more capable of scanning the world around you: Show the camera the exterior of a restaurant and it will show you opening hours, reviews, and menus, and even let you scan flyers to enter dates into your calendar.
Taking a photo of an item you're interested in can provide shopping options and even help distinguish between different breeds of dogs. Apple also highlighted that devices with ChatGPT will have the ability to scan university lectures to aid with study time.
Apple Intelligence will also be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, and Pro Max in a free update next month, with more features to be introduced in the coming months.
