(NEXSTAR) – Just five weeks before voters head to the polls on Election Day, Republican Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio and Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota will face off in a vice presidential debate hosted by CBS News.
The showdown between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump's running mate is scheduled for Oct. 1 in New York City. “CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O'Donnell will co-host with “Face the Nation”'s Margaret Brennan.
The network has not yet announced the rules for the debate, but Vance He told CNN He said his team wasn't “asking for much” and just wanted “an opportunity for a real exchange of ideas.”
CBS News in August Post to X The party sent invitations to Vance and Walz, offering four options for debate dates: September 17, September 24, October 1 and October 8.

Vance agreed to that date. Write in a post “The American people deserve as many debates as they can get,” he argued. He then challenged Governor Walz to another debate, which CNN offered to host on September 18, but the Minnesota governor did not immediately accept.
A second vice presidential debate seems unlikely. USA Today Reported “The debate discussion is over. The Donald Trump campaign has accepted our proposal for three debates: two presidential debates and one vice presidential debate,” Michael Tyler, communications director for the Harris Waltz campaign, said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Tuesday night's highly anticipated debate between Harris and Trump will begin at 9 pm ET at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, the largest city in a key battleground state. ABC News will host and moderate the event.
Tyler said the Trump campaign has agreed to hold a second presidential debate, but a date and broadcaster have yet to be finalized.
