3-year-old girl dies after being found in hot car with unconscious mom during 104-degree day, police say

California women Found it locked Anaheim police said she was in a hot car with her 3-year-old daughter, who later died.

Police said they were called to a medical emergency on Friday around 4:20 p.m. after a family member found 41-year-old Sandra Hernandez and her daughter inside a Ford Expedition. It's unclear how long the couple was inside, but temperatures that day soared to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

“He's broken. He's just devastated.”

The girl was taken to a hospital by paramedics, but later died from complications from heat stroke, according to Anaheim police. An autopsy has not yet been completed.

Police said they found several alcohol bottles in the vehicle.

Hernandez was also taken to the hospital.

Anaheim police Sergeant Matt Sutter said Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and child neglect after being released from the hospital.

“It just makes us sad that he's going through this again,” his cousin, Nancy Salamanca, said. “He's devastated and devastated.”
