Trump reacts to ABC News Presidential Debate performance

Former President Trump responded to his performance in the presidential debate on ABC News' “Hannity” late Tuesday night, saying he thought it was his “best debate ever.”

“I thought it was really good. It was 3 to 1, but I expected that,” he said, referring to debate modestors David Muir and Lindsey Davis occasionally fact-checking or questioning the former president's answers.

“So does the governor of West Virginia. [Virginia]”The former governor — not the current governor, but the former governor, who's doing a great job — said, 'When the baby is born, we're going to decide what to do with the baby.' He said he was going to execute the baby. And so he did,” Trump said.

“There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a newborn baby,” Davis said after finishing his remarks.

Fox News host Sean Hannity questioned Trump about reports that the Harris campaign is hoping for a second debate in October and asked if Trump would be open to it. Fox News has sent formal invitations to both the Trump and Harris campaigns for the second debate next month.

“She wants it because she lost,” Trump responded. “I don't know. I'd have to think about it. But if I won the debate, I don't think I should do it. Why do I have to debate again? She said right away that she wants to debate again, which is… you know what happens when a professional boxer loses? He wants a new fight right away.”

“Are you going to say yes?” Hannity asked.

“Any fair network would do that,” Trump said.

The 2024 Republican presidential candidate also criticized Harris' answers to some questions during the debate.

“I always say I've been preparing for these debates my whole life. You can't do it like she did. She went into the room and more or less knew her lines by heart,” he told Hannity.

Both Trump and Harris received both positive and negative reactions to their respective debate performances.

Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume said the former president “had a terrible night.”

“I heard a lot of the same old grievances that have long held the belief that Trump doesn't translate into political victory,” Hume said after the debate.

Former Democratic congressman and “The Five” host Harold Ford Jr. acknowledged that Harris could have provided more specificity in her answers and better addressed policy changes.
