Claim: Vice President Kamala Harris claimed during Tuesday night's presidential debate that she grew up in a middle-class family.
Verdict: Mostly false. Harris was from a well-to-do Canadian family and grew up in the largely English Westmount area of French Quebec.
When asked if Americans are better off now than they were four years ago, Harris dodged the question entirely, instead saying, “I grew up a middle-class kid, and I'm actually the only person on this stage who has a plan to uplift middle-class and working-class America.”
She said, continuing to avoid the actual question.
I believe in the ambition and aspirations and dreams of the American people. That's why I envision and plan a plan to build what I call an opportunity economy. Because we know there is a shortage of homes and housing is too expensive for too many people. And we know that young families need help raising their children.
But her original claim, clearly an attempt to make herself more relatable to the American public, is demonstrably false.
Breitbart News political editor Emma Jo Morris has reported extensively on Harris's fake persona, having grown up on the same “street” as Harris.
