That's not surprising View Television networks heavily criticized Donald Trump's shaky performance in Tuesday night's (September 10) debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. This morning, the popular daytime talk show invited former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to the Hot Topics table to give his opinion on the mess.
“You had people who were very well prepared and people who weren't,” Christie said, comparing Harris' well-received debate performance to Trump's… well… whatever you want to call it.
Christie said things could go awry quickly if candidates aren't prepared.
“This kind of thing is hard. You go on stage and you know there's 70, 80 million people watching, and when you're on stage, you're on your own in every sense of the word. You have no crew, you have no family, you have no conversations, no notes, no phones, nothing,” he says. “So if you're not well prepared, you can go off the rails really quickly.”
But the fact that Trump is generally a “very angry guy,” as a Republican politician told his co-hosts, doesn't help his case either.
“I said at the start that we're going to see a level-headed Donald Trump, because he knows he has to be level-headed to do well,” Christie said of his pre-debate predictions. “But this isn't an isolated act. It's interactive. If either the questioner or the vice president infuriates him, he's going to be infuriated.”
While Christie said he helped Trump prepare for debates in 2016, Trump said he was no longer interested in preparing for such debates.
“He has to want to do it, and believe me, he doesn't want to do it,” he said. “He doesn't like to work hard. He just wants to go out there and be himself. You could see that.”
View It airs weekdays at 11pm ET/10pm PT on ABC.
