White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf ‘unhappy’ with brutal team

White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement he was “extremely frustrated” by the franchise's worst season in history, but the statement is unlikely to assuage anger among the team's fans over a disgraceful 2024 season.

The White Sox lost 6-4 to the Guardians on Wednesday, their 114th loss of the season, but moved one step closer to breaking the modern MLB record (since 1900) of 120 losses set by the Mets in 1962.

They are on pace to lose 126 games this year.

“Needless to say, everyone in this organization is extremely frustrated with the outcome of this season,” Reinsdorf said in a statement to multiple media outlets on Wednesday. “This has been an incredibly difficult year for everyone, especially our fans. We did not get here overnight, and solutions will not come overnight.”

The White Sox fired Pedro Grifol during the season and replaced him with Grady Sizemore as interim manager, but his performance was also poor.

Sizemore has led the White Sox to a 5-25 record since taking over as manager.

“Dating back to last year, we have made difficult decisions and changes to lay the foundation for future success,” Reinsdorf added. “What I've been impressed with is how our players and staff continued to work every day and take to the field with professionalism despite a historically tough season. While no one is satisfied with the results, I applaud the continued effort.”

The White Sox owner promised to say more after the season ends.

Chicago needs to go 9-6 in their remaining 15 games to avoid the Mets' record.

They'll face the Athletics, Angels (twice), Padres and Tigers at the end of the year.
