Even a phenomenal person like Scottie Scheffler is not immune to the physical challenges that a newborn brings.
Scheffler, the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, appeared on Barstool's “Pardon My Take” podcast this week and was asked if the birth of his son, Bennett, has given him the “dad strength” to hit the ball farther.
“It doesn't get any further than that. The first few months after Bennett was born, when he was just a baby, I was so nervous to hold him that I was so worried I was going to somehow destroy my child that I was so nervous holding him.” Scheffler says.
In fact, Scheffler said his young son caused him physical pain and suffering.
“The first couple of times, my back really hurt. [of] “A few months. I'm a little more relaxed now so it's a little easier to hold him, but it was like clockwork. Two days after coming home from a tournament, my ribs popped out when I hugged him or jumped on him, like a little golf injury.”
Scheffler is enjoying a fantastic year, winning seven PGA Tour events, including the Masters, and winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Scheffler's wife, Meredith, gave birth to Bennett in May.
Immediately after giving birth, Scheffler was asked how she felt at the time.
“I can't really describe the feeling,” Scheffler said at the time. “It was a good time to be at home and reflect a little bit on my career and my life so far. I married my high school sweetheart, I always wanted to be a professional golfer, and now here I am, sitting with my newborn baby in my arms and my green jacket in the closet.”
“It feels pretty crazy.”
