Trump Pledges to End Taxes on Overtime: ‘Hardest-Working Citizens’

Former President Donald Trump called overtime workers “the hardest working people in our country” and promised to repeal overtime taxes.

“I'm also announcing that as part of additional tax cuts, we're going to eliminate all taxes on overtime,” Trump said at the rally, drawing applause from attendees. “This will give people more incentive to work. [makes it a lot easier for the companies] It's to win people.”

While praising overtime workers for their hard work, Trump lamented that Washington “doesn't care about them.”

“I went to see some economists, brilliant people. I said, 'What do you think?' And they said, 'Unbelievable, we'd have a whole new workforce if we did that.' There would be no tax on overtime,” he said. “The people who work overtime are some of the hardest working people in this country. And for a long time, nobody in Washington cared about them. These are people who are really working. They're police officers. They're nurses, factory workers, construction workers, truck drivers, machine operators. It's time for working men and women to finally get a break, and that's what we're doing, because we think this is a good thing and it's going to be great for the country. So we say if you're an overtime worker, if you work over 40 hours a week, your overtime will be tax-free.”

President Trump has pledged to repeal the tip tax and has also pledged to repeal the overtime tax, a pledge made by his rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

“I promise all of you here that if I were president, I would continue to fight for working families, including raising the minimum wage and eliminating the tip tax for service and hospitality workers.” Harris said.
