1st over: Australia 15-0 (Short 14, Head 0) Reece Topley's first over was gone for 15. It was a good start for England. Short survived a big LBW appeal when an inswinging ball was pitched just outside leg, then was prodded by Topley after a wide ball down the leg side. Short hit a six down the ground, edged one over short third man for four and hit another boundary through mid-off. It could have been a lot worse for England. Topley finished the over with successive dot balls.
It's a beautiful, clear evening in Cardiff. Travis Head, captaining Australia for the first time, will (probably) thoroughly trounce England.
“I think it's a bit of fun at the end of the season./Shameless money-grubbing (delete where applicable), so I'll just accept it,” says Guy Hornsby. “But it seems very odd to stick with Jamie Overton as a batsman-only No. 7. He's really talented, but that hurt us in the first game because if the top three fail, he at least looks like a better shortstop. Give me a penny for any other No. 6/7 thoughts, who would I put in there? But then what do I know!
I think Overton will be great to get in there, it's a very specialised position and England really struggle to find players like that, so I think he's worth keeping an eye on.
