Suburban mom murdered by husband in front of 4-year-old daughter: police

An Illinois man has been arrested and charged with murdering his wife after he shot her six times in their home.

Around 11:00 a.m. on September 5, officers from the Warrenville Police Department responded to the home of Steven Kramer (39) on reports of cardiac arrest and death. Police revealed this.

When officers arrived at the home, Kramer greeted them at the front door and told them his wife, Jamie Newman, 47, was in an upstairs bedroom in the home.

Officers went up to the bedroom and found the victim lying on the ground, face up, in front of the foot of the bed, with blood on his face and body and obvious trauma to his face.

Newman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said an autopsy revealed that Newman had been shot six times: between the left eye and nose, three times in the chest, once in the upper left thigh and once in the right forearm.

Police said their investigation revealed the couple had been involved in an argument that escalated into a physical altercation, leading to Kramer shooting and killing Newman.

Kramer turned himself in to the Warrenville Police Department and was taken into custody a short time later.

“Jamie's family and friends are heartbroken, and our hearts go out to her children, especially those who are now forced to live without the love and support that only a mother can give,” said DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin. “While there is nothing we can do to return Jamie to her loved ones, thanks to the great work of the Warrenville Police Department, we will be able to bring strong charges against the man who allegedly took her life.”

Kramer has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, police said.

A DuPage County judge ruled Wednesday that the defendants will remain in jail while they await trial.

“The actions of Mr. Kramer are unthinkable. His family has been permanently scarred and his children have lost their mother,” Warrenville Police Chief Sam Bonilla said.

“Jamie was loved by all who knew her and leaving her daughters behind was something she would never have chosen. Sadly, her life was cut short by domestic violence, leaving all of her daughters orphaned,” the group of “Devoted Mothers” wrote in a blog post.
