Pat McAfee feeds steak to Nick Saban out of his hand on ESPN

Pat McAfee wanted to make sure Nick Saban was eating enough during ESPN's “College GameDay” on Saturday.

During the show, the crew feasted on some of South Carolina's finest cuisine, with McAfee holding a tomahawk steak in his left hand.

Holding the steak in his hands, McAfee made eye contact with Saban, then moved his head and asked the former Alabama head coach if he wanted a bite.

Without a moment's hesitation, Saban dove in and took a chunk of steak out of McAfee's hand.

As Saban enjoyed his food, McAfee leaned over and laughed, then he and Saban celebrated the moment by fist-bumping.

This isn't the first time this has come up between the pair this season.

Footage of the awkward moment, apparently recorded on a cellphone, shows Mr McAfee dancing in his seat and snapping his fingers as music blared, while Mr Saban sat motionless in his seat with his hands clasped together and cast awkward glances at his colleague.

Saban, who retired as Alabama's coach in January and won six national titles over 17 seasons with the Crimson Tide, was hired by ESPN on Feb. 7 to be a commentator for “College GameDay.” He also won a national title as head coach at Louisiana State in 2003.

McAfee is another recent newcomer to the show, having joined the show in 2022 and is currently in its third season.

McAfee's path to College GameDay was much different than Saban's: He was the punter and kicker for the Indianapolis Colts from 2009-16 and was an All-Pro nominee in 2014.

Following his retirement, he launched his own podcast, “The Pat McAfee Show,” which premiered on September 9, 2019. McAfee's show aired on Westwood One, Barstool Sports and SiriusXM before moving to ESPN in September 2022.
