Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos is on standby Baby Reindeer Despite the show's recent legal battles, creator Richard Gadd speaks highly of it.
Gad and Netflix were hit with a $170 million defamation lawsuit from Gad's alleged real-life stalker, Fiona Harvey, who objected to the show's portrayal of a character inspired by her.
Sarandos said London Times “I'm very proud of the show and the way we've handled Richard's storyline,” he told the paper.
in Baby ReindeerThe stalker was jailed, but Harvey says he was never convicted. Sarandos said in the show, which was labeled a “true story” despite the inconsistencies:
“Nobody intended to recklessly label anyone. This is Richard's true story,” he said. “The fact that you're watching it on TV means that parts of it have undoubtedly been dramatized and embellished. I'm astonished that it's still being discussed.”
In the same interview, Sarandos reaffirmed the streamer's commitment to UK production, saying he was as surprised as anyone. Baby Reindeer was a worldwide hit. Gentlemen and Bridgerton It will continue to be produced in the UK.
When asked what his current favorite show outside of Netflix is, Sarandos said FX's Bear“This series is setting the bar high for television, and I love that,” Sarandos said of the kitchen comedy-drama, which is available on Hulu and Disney+.
