The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got revenge on Sunday with a 20-16 win over the Detroit Lions to improve to 2-0 to start the 2024 season.
Baker Mayfield led the Buccaneers on a six-play, 70-yard drive that ended with an 11-yard rushing touchdown to turn the game around in the third quarter. That score and the extra point gave the Buccaneers a four-point lead and a game-winning margin of victory.

The veteran quarterback scored for the second straight game, throwing a 41-yard touchdown pass to Chris Godwin with 9:08 left in the second quarter to give Tampa Bay a 13-6 lead at halftime.
After the Lions scored on a Jake Bates field goal and a David Montgomery rushing touchdown, Mayfield answered with a touchdown.
Mayfield completed 12 of 19 passes for 185 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. His primary target was Godwin. Wide receiver Mayfield caught 7 of 8 passes for 117 yards and a score. Mike Evans caught 3 of 6 passes for 42 yards.
Mayfield also led the team with 34 yards rushing. Bucky Irving had 22 yards on seven carries.

The Lions hosted the Buccaneers in Detroit. The two teams met at Ford Field in the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs earlier this year, with the Lions winning the game 31-23.
This time, the results were quite different.
Jared Goff completed 34 of 55 passes for 307 yards and two interceptions. Amon-Ra St. Brown had 11 catches for 119 yards and Jameson Williams had five catches for 79 yards.
