Trump issues defiant statement after second assassination attempt: ‘Nothing will slow me down’

Former President Donald Trump released a statement Sunday afternoon following the second assassination attempt on him in just two months.

“Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”

“I heard shots fired near me, but before any rumors start spreading, I want you to hear this first: I am safe and well!” Trump said. In a statement.

“Nothing can stop me. I will never give in!,” he added. “I will always love all of you who have supported me.”

The Trump campaign initially released a short statement acknowledging the shooting and saying Trump was not injured.

The former president reportedly told Sean Hannity that he was putting on the fifth hole at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida when shots rang out and Secret Service agents tackled Trump to protect him.

Initial reports said police recovered an AK-47 and a GoPro recording device from bushes outside the golf course.

West Palm Beach Sheriff Rick Bradshaw said He said in a media briefing that officers were able to arrest the suspect based on tips from witnesses.

“We were really lucky to catch a witness who came and said, 'I saw a guy run out of the bushes and he jumped in a black Nissan and I took a picture of the car and the number plate,'” Bradshaw explained.

Online investigators were able to track a social media trail of the shooter, identified as Ryan Routh, whose posts expressed support for Ukraine over Russian aggression, Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign and President Joe Biden.

“Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again,” Trump's statement concluded. “God bless us.”
