Trump, Vance ‘Want to Present Themselves as Near-Victims’

David Frum, a prominent “Never Trump” advocate and former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, argued that former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), “want to portray themselves as closer to being victims of violence” following the second assassination attempt on Trump on Sunday.

“Trump and his running mate successfully incited violence in Springfield, Ohio last week. Today they are trying to portray themselves as close to the victims of violence – in this case, victims of violence that they have nothing to do with and that are at a very safe distance from them,” Frum wrote in a Sunday X post.

Frum's comments came after Trump's election campaign. Announced The 45th president escaped unharmed “despite hearing gunfire nearby,” and the FBI has said it is now investigating what appears to be a second assassination attempt on Trump.

“Right after some left-wing weirdo tried to assassinate my father, @davidfrum of @TheAtlantic tweeted the following,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote in response to Frum's X post, sharing a screenshot of the pundit's remarks.

“It's absolutely insane that after two confirmed assassination attempts, this crank claims without any evidence that he was actually the instigator of violence!” Trump Jr. added.

The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, reportedly hid in bushes near the Trump International Golf Course, waiting for Trump to come into view.

Trump Jr. said Reports circulated on social media that an AK-47 had been smuggled into bushes on the golf course, while other reports said the suspect had also smuggled a Go-Pro camera, presumably to film what he was planning.

September 15th marks the day that President Trump survived his second assassination attempt in two months.

This is not the first time Frum has downplayed the assassination attempt on Trump.

Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt on July 13 when a man named Thomas Matthew Crooks shot him in the ear while he was speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Breitbart News reported.

The assassination attempt left former Fire Chief Corey Comperatore dead and two other rally attendees, David Duch and James Copenhaver, seriously injured.
