Celebrity endorsements carry a lot of weight for many people, even though they shouldn't. When Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris, as we all expected, it certainly solidified the votes of many of her supporters going forward.
Swift's boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has yet to officially endorse a candidate, but we can assume his support will be announced soon, almost certain to result in another Democratic win.
The other two professional athletes who have hinted at political leanings are Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Both players were asked point-blank who they would support in the next election, and Jason Whitlock said their answers were “appropriate and interesting responses.”

“I've always said I don't want my position or my platform to be used to endorse any candidate. … My role is to let people know to register to vote, to let people know to do their research and make the best decision for themselves and their families,” Mahomes said, adding, “Every time I stand on this stage and get asked these questions, I'm going to remember that, because I think that's what makes America great.”
Regarding Mahomes' wife, Brittany Mahomes, having “liked” several of President Donald Trump's tweets, another reporter asked: “Do you have any thoughts specifically about President Trump bringing up Brittany's name? Does that affect you in any way?”
Mahomes again refused to make an overtly political statement.
“At the end of the day, this is about me and my family and how we treat other people. … Brittany does a lot in the community. I do a lot in the community to raise people up and give them a voice. So in political times, people are going to take advantage of things here and there, but I can't allow that to affect how I go about my day to day work and my life.”
Jason called Mahomes' response a “home run.”
He also respected Caitlin Clark's response when USA Today's Christine Brennan questioned her about liking Taylor Swift's Instagram post in support of Kamala Harris.
“I have a great base, so I think the most important thing is to encourage people to register to vote. Personally, I'm 22 and this is the second time I've been able to vote in an election. I was able to vote when I was 18, so I'm going to do that. That's the most important thing my base can do, and that's what Taylor did. And I think we should continue to educate ourselves about our candidates and the policies that they support. I think that's the most important thing you can do and that's what I encourage everyone who has the opportunity in this country to do,” Clark replied.
But Steve Kim thinks Clark's answer will upset a lot of people.
“Some people are going to be very upset now that Caitlyn hasn't formally pledged to campaign and vote Democratic,” he told Jason.
