Just two weeks into the 2024 season, Carolina Panthers Big changes are happening.
According to multiple reports, new head coach Dave Canales will be making a quarterback change. Los Angeles ChargersStarting quarterback and former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young will be benched and veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will take his place.
Through two weeks of the season, Young and the Panthers offense have struggled to get anything done offensively. Carolina lost in Week 1. New Orleans Saints The Panthers lost 47-10, but Young completed 13 of 30 passes for 161 yards and two interceptions.
In Sunday's win over the Chargers, Young completed 18 of 26 passes for 84 yards and one interception. Through two games this season, Young's QBR was: Just 8.9and his “quarterback efficiency” in those two games was: RBSDM The combination of expected points added per dropback and above-expected completion percentage puts him at the bottom of the league.
Perhaps that played into Canales' decision? Young was sacked four times in Week 1, but Carolina mostly played well in pass protection against the Chargers on Sunday.
Bryce Young was pressured on just four of his 29 dropbacks in Week 2, the lowest percentage of any starting quarterback.

The news sparked the following reaction in NFL media circles:
A former No. 1 overall pick will not be benched in the second game of his second year unless:
1) Are you planning on moving on from him at the end of the season?
2) Do you think not making changes will erode trust in the locker room? That's a brutal outcome.

I'm really impressed with Canales. Most coaches would be too hung up on the 1st overall pick. This is definitely the right move. Young just doesn't have what it takes to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
Next step: Find someone willing to trade a decent pick in exchange for Young. https://t.co/C5y74OjJnw

It's nothing short of terrifying that it got to this point so quickly, but Carolina had no other choice. You can't fool your players. Anyone who watches the game knows this is not credible football. Imagine how the other players on the field must be feeling. https://t.co/mOuz2fDYWn

Whether this prevents Young from returning to the starting line-up remains to be seen, but this would be a shocking move after only two games in 2024.
And that could mean the end of his time in Carolina.
