Tom Brady not unretiring to join Dolphins after Tua Tagovailoa concussion

Tom Brady won't be coming out of retirement to join the Miami Dolphins.

The news was brought to you by ESPN's Adam Schefter, who was reporting on the future of Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered a gruesome concussion in Thursday night's game against the Bills.

Speaking on “Sunday NFL Countdown,” Schefter said Tagovailoa has no plans to retire and will see a neurologist this week to evaluate his condition.

Schefter then said the Dolphins plan to start Skylar Thompson this Sunday against the Seahawks, ruling out the possibility of Brady returning.

“I know a lot of people have suggested bringing Tom Brady out of retirement, but that's not going to happen,” Schefter said.

The Dolphins previously wanted to acquire Brady but were fined and forfeited a draft pick for “unauthorized communications” about pairing the quarterback with coach Sean Payton in 2022 in Miami.

Brady last played for the Buccaneers in the 2022 season and currently serves as the main NFL commentator for Fox alongside play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhart.

Brady has also considered buying a minority stake in the Raiders, but a deal would likely fall through if he were to return to the field.

Thompson started two regular season games and one playoff game for the Dolphins in 2022, while Tagovailoa has previously suffered multiple concussions.

On Monday, the Dolphins acquired former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley from the Browns practice squad to add another asset to the team while they wait for word on if and when Tagovailoa will be able to return this season.
