this It's a sad interview With George Scrimshaw.

Alas, Lancashire are down for nine, Gregory for three. Philip trots back. This is like watching an excruciating comedy where no one laughs at any of the lines. Lancashire 123-9. Of course, it remains to be seen how Somerset's batsmen take the delivery.

Paul Edwards interjects: “The last time Lancashire won a batting bonus point was on July 1.”

Anyway, it's time to wander around the rest of the grounds.

Share

Walking around the grounds and drinking coffee And then we decided to have a sip or two in the (very pleasant) sun. Unfortunately it did nothing to help Lancashire's fortunes, who lost Hast and Wells within a few overs, and Singh soon after. It was a quiet day, and the clang of the batsmen's studs leaving the metal steps and being greeted by an empty balcony contrasted with the happy chatter of Somerset's fielders. Four fielders were still in place in the 33rd over (thanks for noticing, Ken). Oh, and one more, Balderson at slip, gobbled up Cavern. Lancashire 115-8.

Elsewhere in Division 1Kent has done Lancashire no favours – Nottinghamshire 126-0 At over four runs per over, Gay's Durham debut was a misfire with a 12-ball duck at the Oval. Bedingham and Robinson rebuilt and Durham 84-3.

After Tom Taylor took two early wickets, Hampshire 105-2 vs WarwickshireVince and Gubbins with trowels and mortars.

And things are getting crazy at Edgbaston. – Warwickshire won 73-7 at the Pittsburgh Stadium in September Essex had three, Snater had three, Cook and Porter had two each.

Flintoff gets an inside edge. And his stumps exploded like a bag of squashed cheese and onions. Lancashire 72-3.

asks Gary Naylor.

“This is a hugely important game for both ends of the table so it is disappointing that Lancashire will be without 16 of the 26 players listed. First XI We put the team names on the website. Is this the record for this round? I feel that the accusation that this will be a Second XI tournament is not supported by the evidence, but my argument is weakening with each passing week.”

A quick look at the yearbook shows Anderson, Livingstone and Salt are in England. Buttler is injured. Lyon is home. Luke Wood is playing in the Zimbabwe T10 (thanks lancashireexpat). Others are out of form. Saqib Mahmood? A bit out of form for the fine Lancashire crew.

It's time to tour the grounds.

Andy Bull

Good morning from the Oval, Tanya It's a lovely late summer's day here and Durham are out to bat, scoring 50 without conceding. Alex Rees, who has taken over as captain, is given a warm round of applause as he scores his 5000th first-class run for the club. He is clean-balled off a delivery from Sam Curran shortly afterwards, but is eventually given a no-ball. Durham have also managed to recruit Northamptonshire's Emilio Gay into the team. Gay wasn't due to join the team until next season, but got an early start. This makes for a pretty formidable batting line-up. However, their bowling is woefully inexperienced, with a lad called James Minto, aged 16, making his debut alongside 19-year-old Daniel Hogg. Oh, and Dan Worrall has just pushed Ben McKinney behind, so Gay will be making his debut…

in the end, We have a correspondent at The Oval: Hello, Andy Bull here!

For those who missed the last round, here's a great explanation of the ending by Tom Davies.

County Cricket: Somerset scores dramatic win over Searle

Jennings and Flintoff bolster Somerset into the second hour. Jennings hits Gregory for two successive fours. Flintoff, with the paperclip attitude of a 16-year-old, patiently scores zero from 15 balls. It's the third four in the over. And another four. Lancashire 59-2.

Share

This was probably covered In the final round, if you want to read about the Big Butt controversy, this Your website, “The Cricket Regulator”, is complete with bat gauge diagrams etc.

Share

And Bohannon A John Wayne walk-off, Overton's second, young Flintoff on the way, Lancashire 41-2.

and Warwickshire They too are struggling: Yates, Davis and Hayne return to the pavilion with just 27 points on the board, with Porter and Cook the ammunition men.

Share

And Overton attacks.Singh drives forward and is caught in the breadbasket by Lammonby. Lancashire 21-1.

Share

Lancashire survived For the first 10 minutes, Craig Overton, Randle and their teammates all played in regulation caps and cable-knit jumpers.

Meanwhile, Warwickshire lost an early wicket when Yates was picked off by Porter for five, and Gloucestershire were brought back to reality when Joe Phillips was dismissed off the ninth ball with the score at 1-1.

Regulation, regulation, regulation

Thanks to Ken Grimes Important points about this regulation:

Rule 16.2.7.

The team with the highest total points at the end of the season will be the champion county in their respective division.

In the event that any teams in the Championship table are tied on points, the following tiebreakers will be applied in the order listed: the team with the most wins, the team with the fewest losses, the team with most points scored in matches between teams tied on points (over-rate penalties will be included in this calculation), the team with the most wickets taken, the team with the most runs scored.

And lo and behold, Jennings had the first pitch slipped to second base by Casey Aldridge.

Lancashire Watch

Somerset won the coin toss. And then we have a bowl game. This does not bode well for Lancashire. It is the first time since 1907 that they have lost three consecutive matches by an innings, and the first time in Lancashire's history that they have lost four consecutive Championship matches by an innings.

The mood at Old Trafford is generally brighter than the sombre spectacle of Sunday's T20, even though the match has yet to start.
