An unwitting driver was killed Monday in Queens when he was struck by what appeared to be a stray bullet while driving an SUV that lost control and struck a female pedestrian, police said.
Police said William Alcindor, 66, was driving a gray 2014 Nissan eastbound on Baisley Boulevard when he was struck in the head by a slug as he was turning onto northbound Farmers Boulevard in St. Albans around 4:50 p.m. Investigators believe the slug was intended for another person.
Police said the fatally injured elderly man lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a 23-year-old woman.
Alcindor, who lived about two miles away in Cambria Heights, was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A female pedestrian who suffered a leg injury was taken to the same hospital in stable condition, police said.
The shooting suspect, seen in a photo released by the NYPD early Tuesday, is described as having dark hair, a medium build, thin build and weighing about 150 pounds.
Police say the man was last seen wearing a black shirt, black pants, white sneakers and a black surgical mask.
Investigators believe the young gunman was with at least two other people, but the exact number is still under investigation as police review the video, police sources said.
Police said the motive for the shooting remains unclear and it is unclear who the gunman intended to shoot.
No arrests had been made by Tuesday morning.
