Ask any football expert who the best guard is in the NFL and Quenton Nelson's name will likely be one of the first to come up. Indianapolis Colts They invested the sixth pick in Nelson. Notre Dame Nelson was selected in the 2018 NFL Draft and has exceeded all expectations since the beginning of his professional career. Already a three-time First Team All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowl selection, Nelson combines strong run blocking with versatile and effective pass blocking.
Indianapolis Colts Green Bay Packers In Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season, Nelson showed he could still be a threat while still being respectful to his opponents. Watch this play where Colts QB Anthony Richardson rolls out of the pocket with a bootleg and Nelson pulls in to protect his blind side. A Green Bay defender runs toward Richardson and, with his head facing the quarterback, lunges at Nelson at full speed. This was a golden opportunity to make a clearing block that could end up in all the highlight reels as evidence of Nelson's greatness. But Nelson did the humane thing and gently took him down. Watch the play here:
This is a great block. It's effective, safe, and shows consideration for your teammates on the other team. Football is a violent game, but it's not always easy. Have Be violent. Many of the bone-crunching hits that once graced highlight reels are no longer in the game. This block is just as effective as a hit that stuns a defender. Nelson showed concern for the opposing team without sacrificing anything for it.
This is another reason why Nelson is the best in the business. As a young offensive lineman, there is no one I look up to more than Quenton Nelson.
