The Jets defense may see a change of center back when they face the Patriots on Thursday night.
Linebacker C.J. Mosley was officially listed as questionable on Wednesday.
He did not participate in the Jets' limited practice this week because of a toe injury he suffered at Tennessee.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh suggested Tuesday that Mosley may attend a pregame workout to see if he's fit to play.
If Mosley is unable to play, Jamien Sherwood will start in his place as a defender, equipped with a speaker in his helmet to receive instructions from the coach.
Sherwood replaced Mosley in Sunday's game against the Titans after he was injured in the first half.
“I get along well with Jamien,” Saleh said. “He's made great strides as a professional football player. I'm confident he'll be able to command the defense and make the checks that are needed. He's got great intelligence and communication skills, so I'm not worried about him making plays at all.”
Other injury news for the Jets was positive.
Cornerbacks DJ Reed (knee) and Michael Carter II (ankle) practiced Wednesday but were not placed on the injured list.
Reed missed the game against the Titans and Carter was ejected from the match.
The Giants' kicking situation has been a big focus this week.
With Graham Gano injured on the opening kickoff, the Giants were forced to leave the kicking to punter Jamie Gillan, who missed the extra point attempt, and the Giants then went for two with time left in the game.
Jets punter Thomas Morstead is prepared for that situation.
He has never kicked an extra point or field goal in his career, but he has kicked off 546 times in his career, primarily with the Saints, and six last season with the Jets when Greg Zuerlein was injured.
“I've been practicing here and there to prepare,” Morstead said, “but it's not just to hone my technique, it's to get me ready and in shape to actually execute it in a game.”
Morstead served as kicker and punter at SMU, making 37 of 53 field goals in his collegiate career.
“I'm ready to go,” Morstead said. “I want to get some points in before my career is over.”
The Patriots announced four players will be unavailable for Thursday's game: LB Ja'Waan Bentley (shoulder), OT Bederian Rowe (knee), G Sidi Sa'ou (ankle) and LB O'Shane Ximinez (knee).
